Yes of course, in anarchy mode against multiple opponents it gives not that much advantage.
In an One-on-One deathmatch it could be an option through. Depends on the map in the end.

As I said, give the Sparrow the option to send the data to all team members, and things start to get interesting.

Ships hit by the beacon are visible to all players, also your team mates.

Re: What do people fly?

Interesting. I did not know that. What about rogues?
How to find out if oneself is hit by a beacon? Hard to test that with just bots.
...

Seems one can't hit own team members with beacon.
And what does mark target with 'f' actually do exactly?
It just gives another color in the HUD?

Re: What do people fly?

When you got hit by the beacon, you see it by some icon or color in your hud. The beacon lasts 30 seconds, so I doubt it is of much use anyway.

Re: What do people fly?

It should only send data to the ship that has fired the missile and list also ship type and weapon/ammo loadout. Plus my Sparrow-story of course.

Re: What do people fly?

Marking targets changes their colour to purple (!) and seems to make homing weapons prefer that target.  It's really useful in big open maps like Frontier where everybody's fighting everybody else but you're trying to concentrate on one guy so you actually get a kill -- I've been able to use it effectively even in Warehouse.

Re: What do people fly?

I think Splotchie is meaning marking using the keyboard 'mark target' binding (which is useful), and the other people are meaning the tracker missile.

The tracker missile is a right pain in big open maps like frontier, as you can't cloak to escape a fight that went badly, you can't sneak up on people, and missile have an annoying tendency to home on you. In smaller maps, I don't see much value in them.

One thing they probably are good for is when you have a really skilled player, and four of you want to take him down.
