One minor annoyance in the current level designs:
When heading to a room to reload, I'm often moving when I power down, and my ship slides to the edge of the room, which is apparently outside the reloading-area extents. Having to power back up/down to move toward the center of the pad is a tiny annoyance.

Yes, same here -- while looking ultra cool powering down in mid air and arcing onto the pad, I usually slide off it too when I do that Inertia is one of the strong forces in this game. Right now I'm indifferent about it, I see it as a game specific skill to learn. Ask me again after I mastered it (or not
.)

I increased the ship body friction a bit, which helps them stop sliding a little faster once they're down on the pad. The real "solution" to this issue of course is modifying the map so that the pads are larger or up against walls, which is something I will keep in mind when building future maps, but right now it is a low priority.

Does the friction increase affect bumping into walls ? Ie. does it slow us down further ? If so, could you increase the pads friction or make them magnetic instead ?

Ship body friction = friction against a surface. As long as you're not rubbing against walls, it shouldn't affect your interaction with them. It will affect how the ships behave when you land anywhere, though, not just on pads - would always make you slide less.

Incidental contact with the walls won't cost you much speed. The friction force depends on the amount of force pushing you against the wall, and you have to sustain that pressure to have much effect. Unless you're deliberately pressing against the wall as you fly along, you should be fine.
Pretty cat, btw.

On a totally different note -- cat #2 really digs your avatar
Thanks, tell cat #2 that she has good taste
